Meetup: http://www.meetup.com/Uniting4Kids-Meetup/events/227456402/

This is an informal conversation to connect on the topics we care about most: supporting children, strengthening communities and making the world better. Uniting4Kids is coordinating these “Coffee Chats” throughout the state. Each one is hosted by a different parent, offering a location near you and a unique flavor to every discussion. Attend one, or attend them all.

Our goal is to connect with great people, facilitate the exchange of accurate and reliable information and advance the cause of children, youth and education.

Please watch for events in your neighborhood and JOIN US!

Take the privacy survey and share with your contacts:

EFF is researching how/what/why vendors can get access to the personal data of children. https://www.eff.org/issues/student-privacy They are  spreading the word about companies collecting students’ data and launching a campaign to educate parents and administrators about these risks to student privacy. Children usually have little or no say about which devices they’re assigned, and we believe that the safety of their sensitive personal information should lie in the hands of parents and trusted school officials – not private companies. You can help us investigate school surveillance by taking our survey. The results will help us paint a nation-wide portrait of which cloud platforms are in use, which devices are being assigned, and where. You can read a case study of one family in Roseville, California and learn more in our FAQ.

EFF

Defending your rights in the digital world. The Electronic Frontier Foundation is the leading nonprofit organization defending civil liberties in the digital world. Founded in 1990, EFF champions user privacy, free expression, and innovation through impact litigation, policy analysis, grassroots activism, and technology development. We work to ensure that rights and freedoms are enhanced and protected as our use of technology grows. Even in the fledgling days of the Internet, EFF understood that protecting access to developing technology was central to advancing freedom for all. In the years that followed, EFF used our fiercely independent voice to clear the way for open source software, encryption, security research, file sharing tools, and a world of emerging technologies. Today, EFF uses the unique expertise of leading technologists, activists, and attorneys in our efforts to defend free speech online, fight illegal surveillance, advocate for users and innovators, and support freedom-enhancing technologies.
